growing tastes and growing up and you growing on me

Isn't it peculiar how over time your taste in things change? I'm currently hunkered over my desk eating sushi when it occurred to me, a few short years ago, I couldn't STAND sushi. I remember seeing Bright Eyes in Seattle, and being with a friend and my mum. Him and my mum both wanted sushi, and I gagged the entire time I was in the restaurant. I was 16 and loaded with angst and attitude. I remember I ordered a bowl of white rice and glared at them the entire time they were ooing and awwing over disgusting raw fish. As I grew older, most of my friends loved sushi, and that was where we would eat. I tried California rolls, dynamite rolls, etc. and I just couldn't like them. I was stubborn. I finally landed on loving avocado rolls and yam rolls. They are simple, and I don't care. I always make sure I order extra, extra ginger because I love the combination of pickled and spicy.

I started thinking about other things I use to hate, and now have a solid appreciation for.

Black coffee
Spicy agadashi tofu
Electronic/Electronopop music
Water
Really, really long drives
Meeting new people
Green tea
Openly admitting I have guilty pleasure songs (*cough Blurred Lines cough*)

I feel like your tastes will always change. When I'm 30, I might hate cats (who are we kidding, that will NEVER happen).I'm a firm believer in the Peter Pan mentality. I will never really 'grow up'. I will always laugh when someone farts, I will always say "that's what she said" or "your mom said" in the most opportune moments, and poop jokes will forever be funny. My mind will always be in the gutter, I will always look to see if a guy has a boner while he's wearing sweatpants (bisp), and I will always swear if I feel I fucking need to. Growing older isn't about become a dull, it's about finding out what you like and what you don't like. It's about finding out what makes you tick, and who you want to go on adventures with. Growing up has nothing to do with being 25 and still laugh at South Park.
